A Move Under Stress

I accessed my anger this morning. My day was planned around an outing that admittedly felt challenging on my time. When I arrived at the destination at the appointed time, plans had changed. I’m usually pretty flexible about these types of things. We in the Heart Triad are adapters. We tend to try to make things work. Today, it felt like a lot. I made the appropriate phone calls to inform the others involved and then I felt…..angry. When Type 2 is under stress the move is to Type 8. In moving to the Body Triad, anger is very easily accessed. I didn’t do or say anything ugly, but I could feel a tension in my chest, a pulse of energy through my body, a need to move. I could name it.

After a few deep breaths, the anger has passed (thanks for listening) and I feel more like The Helper again. But there is value in recognizing our moves around the circle of the Enneagram. Learning to notice, becoming aware of our feelings, both emotional and physical, are steps toward greater self-awareness. These days we have plenty of opportunities to practice! Are you becoming more aware of your shift in times of stress?
